The recent election result is great news for our Public and Proud campaign. We now have a Labor Government and a total of seven United Voice members are new MPs. Never before have we had so many representatives in Parliament to listen and act on behalf of our education members.
Our newly elected MPs are:
- Craig Crawford (Barron River)
- Aaron Harper (Thuringowa)
- Coralee O’Rourke (Mundingburra)
- Nikki Boyd (Pine Rivers)
- Don Brown (Capalaba)
- Steven Miles (Mt Coot-tha)
- Mick De Brenni (Springwood)
All of these politicians have shown their support for school cleaners and teacher aides by meeting with delegations and signing our Public and Proud pledge. They’re not the only MPs, now in government, who have committed to reinstating industrial conditions for teacher aides and promising not to outsource school cleaning. Thanks to all the hard work of our education members, a total of 41 out of the 45 Government MPs signed our pledge. That means the Labor Government has given a strong commitment to teacher aides and school cleaners.
The next step in our Public and Proud campaign is to make sure the Labor Government follow through on these commitments as soon as possible. We look forward to working with the new Education Minister, Kate Jones to make sure school cleaners and teacher aides stay Public and Proud.
